Things to do in Saint Croix
What to do in Saint Croix
When you visit Saint Croix you can experience the unique culture its arts, crafts, music, and much more during several festivals and cultural events throughout the year. Relax on the beach in the morning, explore a colonial church in the afternoon, and have a romantic dinner in the evening; that would be the day in the life of a visitor to Saint Croix; visit Captain Morgan’s Visitors Center, home to the second largest selling rum brand in the world; try your luck at Divi Carina Bay Casino, the only casino in the U.S. Virgin Islands; or make your way to Point Udall, the easternmost point in the United States with an impressive monument overlooking the seaside cliffs.
Saint Croix is known for world-class snorkeling. It features an amazing underwater wall that runs parallel along the north shore. The reef at Cane Bay has coral gardens teaming with fish at the depth of 10-15 feet. The Nature Conservancy has a beautiful coral nursery where one can snorkel or dive. As the coral gardens get deeper one can see the old Danish anchors scattered around as the slope gradually drops to 40 feet prior to the wall drop-off. The wall is part of the Puerto Rican trench and is pretty much an underwater highway.
There are dozens of sugar mills still standing throughout Saint Croix. This is part of the amazing history and heritage of the island. Many were constructed under Danish rule back in the 1800’s, when Saint Croix was one of the richest sugar-producing islands in the Caribbean.
